6/26/2023 0 Comments Cactus music store houston![]() The payoff was a rollicking version of early song “Bread and Water” with the lyric “Houston always brings me down” delivered with a big smile from Bingham. The people who really were there for the music were early and up front, one even offered Bingham a swig from his whiskey flask which the singer happily obliged. Bingham seemed to sense this, so his set at Cactus was a bit shorter than the one he performed the day before in Austin.īingham took some time to meet the fans and sign autographs afterward. Still, there were pockets of people who’d rather stand and gab with their bros and ugly girlfriends, instead of relinquishing 30 minutes of attention to this fine artist. People in Houston kill me: this capacity show at the record store (complete with firemen on hand, ostensibly to prevent too many people breaking the fire code) required a purchase and a bit of trouble to enter. ![]() “Too Deep To Fill” is perhaps the album’s best song, Bingham’s mission statement of why he’s hitting the road again: “I’m going out to the country/I’m going to see if I can find out why,” while reminding the listener he will won’t stray forever with “I hope to be home by supper time.” “Never Ending Show” is one of his many road songs, declaring “I don’t need the marquee lights/I don’t need my name in lights” while all he wants is to “hopefully make it home.” At the in-store on Friday, Bingham stripped the songs down to their acoustic underpinnings but the boy’s a heck of a guitar player, so they rocked nevertheless. ![]() Tomorrowland, Bingham’s fourth studio album, is a bit of a rocker that’s earned good reviews. You're encouraged to get right up in the action with new abilities and opportunities. The faster you murder, the faster enemies spawn, the more difficult it becomes-but the greater your potential violence output. Lots of murder, and fast, fast enough to outpace the clock. In Hyper Demon, the timer works against you, your score ticking down with every passing millisecond (even down into negatives). In Devil Daggers, you're there to survive as long as possible, a timer serving as your score. In both, you dodge, shoot, grab gems to gain stronger attacks, and just try to record a good score. You'll die if even one touches you but luckily, your hand fires unholy knives. Bony pillars burp swarms of little skulls, skeletal snakes squirm and charge you before retreating into defensive coils, wyrms drift through the skies, greedy big beasties suck power-up gems towards their many maws, and so on. Hyper Demon has the same setup as our favourite game of 2016: you're standing atop a barren plane in a void where hovering skulls and other skeletal horrors will spawn to getcha, a broad range of beasties with different behaviours. And when the action picks up and the screen becomes a fisheye view of unfathomable violence navigated by sound and intuition more than sight, god! Screenshots can't capture it. Its many skulls have a crystalline makeover, glimmering like citrine and shattering the spectrum into rainbow highlights. I am delighted that the best-looking game of 2016 has been followed by the best-looking game of 2022. Here's the important thing to realise: the unearthly and incomprehensible violence you see in that trailer is genuinely what the game looks like to play. When I first saw Hyper Demon's trailer, I felt excitement, wonder, and fear. ![]() In Hyper Demon, a long and cautious run will likely score lower than a short burst of ultraviolence. ![]() Both first-person score attack shooters are dressed in similar beautiful cloaks of skulls and gurgling industrial soundscapes, but while Devil Daggers nudges you into cautious survival, Hyper Demon shoves you into aggression. The best way I can explain the difference between Devil Daggers and its surprise sequel is comparison to another pair of goth-o-ramas: Devil Daggers is Dark Souls to Hyper Demon's Bloodborne. The surprise Devil Daggers sequel is a punishing FPS but rewards perseverance with astonishing multicolour ultraviolence 6/26/2023 0 Comments Smarty pants multivitamin![]() ![]() It’s important to remember that multivitamins are meant to supplement a healthy diet and not replace one. If you follow a restrictive diet, eliminate entire food groups, have a diagnosed deficiency, have a medical condition, or take medications that interfere with nutrient absorption, you may want to consider a multivitamin. “Some people take a multivitamin as a safety net, but doing so may result in over-supplementing certain nutrients,” says Lauren Manaker, MS, RDN, LDN, CLEC, CPT. For healthy adults eating a well-balanced and varied diet, it’s unlikely that a multivitamin provides many benefits, and there can be potential downsides. Food is the preferred source of nutrients, but if you are unable to meet your vitamin and mineral needs through food alone, multivitamins can be helpful to fill in the gaps. 6/26/2023 0 Comments Play octodad dadliest catch demo![]() One particular event, which tasks Octodad with retrieving a mango soda from the top of a pile of crates, has been completely redesigned, making the entire ordeal much smoother in the process. Many of the stealth sequences (yes, there are stealth sections, and they’re hopeless) have been redesigned or completely removed, and a few mini-games and other distractions have been added in return. Thankfully, the PlayStation 4 release has benefited from the handful of updates and tweaks that the PC version has already seen, which removes a lot of the frustration. Frankly, this is one area where Octodad stumbles more often than he should the reluctance to break away from traditional gameplay mechanics and structures is understandable given that it does come from a relatively inexperienced developer, and it doesn’t hurt the game for the most part, but I can’t help but wish the team took on the challenge of pushing boundaries even further. ![]() Bosses? You ask? But this is a game of domestic bliss, is it not? You see, while Octodad has managed to dupe most people into believing he’s an average Joe, one unrelenting sushi chef has made it his life goal to reveal Octodad’s true identity (and, one would assume, turn him into an appetiser). It’s all fairly linear, with a handful of objectives, to complete, and the occasional boss to beat down. ![]() The game is split up into a handful of levels, all of which take place over a single day in Octodad’s life (except for the hilarious prologue, which takes place during his wedding day). Even the most communicative players will have Octodad flailing around on the floor for a few minutes, and it only adds to the level of enjoyment.Īs unique as the game’s premise and setup is, Octodad follows a relatively simple structure. To top it off, you can choose to play the game cooperatively, which has you splitting up the limbs with one or more players. This is where much of the enjoyment comes from something as simple as making a cup of coffee can result in a mess of broken kitchenware, and as an example, when I was trying to get “dad” to grill up some burgers for his family, he accidentally hit his wife with the barbeque cover while burning his tentacles. The controls map his legs to each trigger, and his right arm to the thumbsticks, which also control the legs when you’re moving him around. Octodad’s peculiar situation translates smoothly to the controls, in the sense that you’ll immediately have trouble keeping him on a straight path. Having kids? Yup, he’s done it all, but you would probably be better off not trying to puzzle out the specific details, mainly, how an octopus and a human could… well, you know… ![]() Octodad still centres around the hilarious exploits of an octopus, who has managed to live a relatively normal human life, despite being blessed with eight unwieldy tentacles and a face that only a mother could love. While there will undoubtedly be complaints from those who simply look at Octodad as a game (and nothing more), there’s a heartwarming story to be told, if you’re willing to take the time to look for it.īut let’s not get crazy or anything. Yet, developer Young Horses has pulled it all off. Playing as an octopus is already silly enough, but stuffing him into a cheap three-piece suit and tasking him with living a normal life all while continuing to pass off as a loving father is insane. Octodad: Dadliest Catch’s premise is, at its very core, inherently stupid. 6/25/2023 0 Comments Doodle devil combos![]() There are several new mythical demonic beasts that you can create in the story mode that can be “freed” using keys you can purchase with in-game currency. The one new thing Doodle Devil: 3volution does add is a sort of a battle mode. Other games in the series introduced timers that would go on if you made too many guesses, and there’s no reason this entry in the series couldn’t add something similar, despite essentially being a port. While you’re meant to use in-game currency to buy hints and such to help you uncover new combinations, the fact that you can just endlessly mash guesses with no punishment makes the game feel like almost a waste of time to play fairly. But Doodle Devil: 3volution does nothing to innovate on the series in meaningful ways and is just too easy to cheese your way through. I used to love these chemistry games, and in some ways, I still do. This small thing helps make a tedious process a little better, but it’s still annoying. This wasn’t intuitive at first but became essential as the screens became filled with elements and categories to navigate, and clicking through one option at a time became slow and boring. Or, you can use the left and right sticks and the left and right triggers to sort through menus. You can use just the left joystick/d-pad to select one element from the left side and then use the left stick to select one from the right. The trouble with console versions is that the controls can become a tad cumbersome since each element is shown once on either side of the screen. These games were popularized originally as mobile games where you could easily tap on elements and quickly combine them, or fail to and keep retrying, to create new elements that can be used for further combinations. But the game is really all about the mixing of elements to uncover the nearly 300 the game has to discover. Something about the devil and helping him out. It’s a classic chemistry game that Doodle God popularized more than a decade ago. ![]() ![]() It’s a simple concept: you’re given a few elements to start with (earth, fire, water, air), and from them, you must create all of the most heinous elements of human history. Doodle Devil: 3volution is the console version of the spinoff of the classic Doodle God game developed and published by JoyBits. |
